Troop Development: Building and Protecting Your Fighting Force

Troops are both a major source of strength and one of the account’s largest continuing expenses. They require training time, food, iron, Hospital capacity and healing resources.
The goal is not simply to own the greatest number of troops. It is to develop troops strong enough to support your marches while protecting the investment required to build them.

Troop Tiers
Higher-tier troops provide greater combat strength, but unlocking them requires coordinated Headquarters, Barracks and research development.
A powerful hero squad can still underperform when it enters battle with lower-tier troops. This is why troop progression should remain connected to the rest of your account plan.
When a new tier becomes available, begin converting your fighting force rather than allowing large numbers of weaker troops to remain unused. You do not need to complete every promotion immediately, but your primary marches should gradually move toward the highest tier available.
New troop tiers provide the most value when you also have enough march capacity and trained units to fill your formations.

Training and Promotion
Training creates new troops. Promotion upgrades troops you already own into stronger tiers.
Promotion prevents older troops from becoming permanent inventory clutter. It can also be timed with events that reward troop development, allowing the same action to strengthen the account and earn additional rewards.
Maintain a balance between:
Training enough troops to fill your marches
Promoting outdated troop tiers
Preserving training speedups for scoring events
Replacing reasonable combat losses
Avoiding more troops than your Hospitals and resources can support
Do not train troops only to increase displayed power. Every troop should support your marches, rallies, reinforcements or future promotion strategy.

Barracks Strategy
Barracks at different levels can provide flexibility.
Staggered Barracks may allow you to train several troop tiers and promote them later during troop-training events. This can create efficient scoring, especially when promotions are planned in advance.
However, the strategy should not prevent you from developing the high-tier troops required for combat. A large supply of lower-tier troops is not helpful when your strongest marches remain underfilled.
Your Barracks plan should support two goals:
Maintain a battle-ready supply of high-tier troops
Create efficient training and promotion opportunities for events
If staggered Barracks make your account harder to manage or slow your combat progress, prioritize the levels that support your strongest available troop tier.

Fill the March Before Expanding
Developing second and third squads creates additional troop demand.
A formation is not truly battle-ready just because its heroes are developed. It also needs enough troops at an appropriate tier to fill its march.
Before expanding, confirm that your main squad consistently enters battle at full capacity. Then determine whether your troop inventory can support another formation without weakening the first.
March size provides potential. Troop inventory allows you to use it.

Avoiding Unnecessary Losses
Troops should not be treated as disposable power. Every avoidable loss consumes resources and delays future growth.
Protect them by:
Removing wall defenders when appropriate
Shielding when inactive during dangerous events
Clearing Hospital space before battle
Healing wounded troops before launching new attacks
Scouting before attacking
Joining appropriate rallies
Avoiding repeated attacks against opponents you cannot defeat
Following retreat and relocation instructions
Keeping healing resources available
Not every possible fight is worth taking. Strong troop management includes knowing when to attack, when to reinforce and when to protect the account.

Hospitals Are Part of Combat Readiness
A full Hospital can turn additional casualties into permanent troop losses. Hospital capacity is therefore part of combat readiness—not merely a recovery statistic.
Before major combat:
Heal existing wounded troops
Confirm available Hospital capacity
Save healing speedups
Prepare the required resources
Monitor casualties during the battle
Stop defending when losses are no longer sustainable
A player with strong heroes and no recovery capacity may be removed from the fight after only a few engagements.

The Key to Troop Development
Train enough troops to fill your marches. Promote weaker tiers into useful strength. Develop Barracks around both combat and event goals. Protect troops from battles that do not serve the objective.
Your troops represent time, resources and future combat potential. Build them carefully and spend them wisely.
TRAIN WITH PURPOSE. PROMOTE FOR STRENGTH. PROTECT WHAT YOU BUILD.
